to do list

It’s now or never!

How many times have you found yourself with a mental list of all the things you want to accomplish, but never get around to? And, how many of those times have you told yourself, “It’s now or never”?

I seem to find myself in that mindset more often than not and still manage to not be motivated enough to get it all done. It’s true that I usually expect more of myself than time allows, but there comes a time when you have to add some of your wants to your priority list.

For us moms, this includes needs that we often mask as wants. For example, “I want to exercise more and eat a healthier diet, but I don’t have time.” Although this may seem like a desire above basic needs, spending extra time exercising as well as prepping and cooking healthier food is necessary for improved physical health, mental health, and energy levels.

So, in an attempt to quell my self-deprecating internal dialogue, I’m trying to set up more attainable goals. I don’t have to exercise for 30 – 45 minutes a day, every day. Five minutes is better than none. I don’t have to scrub the house clean daily. Let’s face it, almost no one has time for that! I can spend the time that I’m cooking dinner to pick up a few things between the stirring and flipping. And, I can make it a point to do things that will make me feel more productive than escaping through binge reading or streaming. Namely, I can get back to writing. The kind I do for myself.

I’ve often said that I’d get this blog up and going, but it never seems to last. I don’t have to post at least once a day, but I think I could manage once a week. (That still gives me time to binge!) In the end, it’s really a matter of just making myself do it, even if I feel like doing “nothing.” This is my attempt at self-motivation, and if anyone reads this, perhaps you will find it motivating as well.
