That’s right, my friends, it’s National Ice Cream Day. Don’t worry, I’ll refrain from the “I scream” saying, if for no other reason than its annoying overuse. What I will do, though, is eat lots of it!
It all started yesterday morning when I received a lovely email from Kroger announcing that their Deluxe brand would be on sale for $0.99 for one day only. I was so excited that I began planning my trip to the store right away. I didn’t want to go JUST for the ice cream, so I diligently made a list of items that were actually needed (unlike the ice cream). I was feeling rather proud of myself. My daughter and I drove to the store, loaded up the buggy as we headed for the frozen foods section, keeping our fingers crossed that they weren’t sold out. I was a little concerned when I got there though, because there were no “on sale” signs posted. I got out my phone, pulled up my email, and checked the advertisement I received that morning. I was right, it was the Kroger Deluxe brand and it was supposed to be $0.99 for July 16 only. So, what was wrong? Then it dawned on me…it wasn’t the 16th!
I felt rather foolish as I explained to my daughter that we would not be buying ice cream after all. She couldn’t quite figure out why we couldn’t buy it right then, and still celebrate National Ice Cream Day the next day. I then had to explain the difference in price and how it would add up. See, my plan is to buy each member of the family their favorite flavor so we can all enjoy this special day properly. That’ll be five boxes of ice cream! At least I realized my mistake BEFORE I made it to the check out line.
It may seem ridiculous that each day of the year now is some kind of “National Day,” but if it’s something you and your family enjoy, then it makes for a good way or reason to spend time together. If National Ice Cream Day is one you’d like to celebrate, here are some other deals you may want to consider:
- McDonald’s is giving away one free vanilla cone per customer, IF you have downloaded the McD App and registered an account with it.
- Carvel is offering a BOGO deal for the day.
- Dippin’ Dots will give out one free cup per customer, but only at participating locations, and only for a two hour window.
This list is by no means exhaustive, so if you’re planning on going somewhere today, ask if they have an ice cream deal.
